Action Vs. Movement

Action vs Movement: Movement places us in the general form of the posture. Action creates the alignment that protects you in your practice. These theoretical aspects are great tools to study and support the principles of alignment.

Actions are a complex choreography of movements: They set specific forces to work. Contained force fields of reactions within the muscles, ligaments and related tissue. Actions sustain the different ways these polar forces work. Forces are at work but very little movement is noticed.

  • isometric
  • isotonic
  • eccentric
  • concentric

The intention within the practice: We are manifested beings, the inner world longs to be expressed. Actions sustain the asana as much as they sustain life. We can train our bodies hard but we can also express beauty. Therefore actions with a consolidated attitude are expressions of happiness to participate in creation.

The quality of actions whiting the asana individual parts within the whole, the integrity of the pose. We keep the intention, our consistent attitude while performing the Asana. Open, present, evenness of conscience within the body and in the breath. Everything is aligned to manifest the intention and there is balanced action, to reach inside and to extend like the sun rays, with balanced action and inner freedom.

The expansion of energy: The result of a well organised body where the expression of the asana is both powerful and elegant. May my practice bring me closer to the best of myself so while I walk, I enjoy with respect. Let’s remember what we do and why we do it: for the highest purpose. To be and To do. Alignment is the understanding that the biomechanics exist to allow us to express the Source of inner creativity.
